General Questions

  • What is addiction?

Addiction is one's unhealthy realtionship with a chemical or behavior which causes ongoing problems in one's life.  Anything which helps change or avoid emotions has the potential to become an addiction.  The addiction itself medicates for underlying emotional issues.

  • What is intervention?

Vernon E. Johnson describes intervention as instead of waiting for the victim to "hit bottom", to confront the alcoholic (or dependent person) at an early stage of the addiction - in a meeting carefully planned to cause recognition of the problem and immediate referral to treatment.

  • What is an interventionist?

An interventionist, or intervention specialist, is a person with experience and training in the models of intervention.
