Addiction is one's unhealthy realtionship with a chemical or behavior which
causes ongoing problems in one's life. Anything which helps change or avoid emotions has the potential to become an
addiction. The addiction itself medicates for underlying emotional issues.
Vernon E. Johnson describes intervention as instead of waiting for the victim to "hit bottom", to confront
the alcoholic (or dependent person) at an early stage of the addiction - in a meeting carefully planned to cause recognition
of the problem and immediate referral to treatment.
